History

The Arlington Community Band was originally formed to help Arlington celebrate the American Bicentennial in 1976. What was then known as the Arlington Civic Band began performing regular summer seasons in 1982. In 1988, an offshoot of the band became what is now known as the Texas Wind Symphony. However, a core musical organization dedicated to providing free summer band concerts in Arlington remained.

The Band continued performing, eventually incorporating as the Arlington Community Band (ACB) in 1994. The ACB has performed in many venues over the years, most notably at Arlington's annual Fourth of July Parade. The band has also appeared at Six Flags Over Texas, at Riverfest at River Legacy Park, at UTA Summer Music Camps, and at numerous locations around Arlington during its summer concert seasons.

During the 2000 summer season, sentiment was strong among band members that the ACB perform on a year-round basis. Arlington Community Band immediately embarked on a multi-year capitol program to acquire the necessary equipment and to expand its music library. ACB very gratefully attracted the sponsorship of several corporations and secured yearly Arlington Arts and Cultural grants.

Since then, ACB has performed throughout the year, regularly appearing at both outdoor and indoor events. Venues have been expanded to include outdoor concerts for the Arlington and Pantego Christmas Tree Lightings and for Arlington's Easter Egg Hunt. Indoor concerts are regularly hosted by many Arlington-area churches, including First United Methodist Church, First Church of the Nazarene, First Christian Church, and New World United Methodist Church. Concerts are also held at Arlington-area retirement homes, such as Fox Run and Town Village.
